First look at an interesting new thing I’ve been working on with illustrator Simon Russell…
Thanks to Simon, I’m getting to fulfil a long-held ambition: writing scripts for comics! We’re working on a version of one of my favourite Norse myths, the Marriage of Njord and Skadi. Has been great fun to collaborate on telling stories in the brief, visual style of comics – learning how to pare it down to what little text is really needed, considering what images will match the beat of the story best, and swapping ideas for what’s REALLY happening with the characters at each point.
No firm plans for finished work yet, but we’re hoping there’ll be a small-press run some time over the next year. And for now, here’s a glimpse at some of Simon’s early ideas for the illustrations…!
